After a year off AZ KAOS was back at work covering, and enjoying, this yearly gathering in Sin City now on its 18th installment. Like every year before this was a long weekend of meeting up with friends, making new ones, buying to much merch and getting to shot some great bands.
Day one started out with a short walk over to check out the pool party and see Clorox Girls do their thing in front off a huge crowd both in and out of the pool and score one of the PRB beer buckets before they sold outand yes beer did accompany the bucket..it is never to early in Vegas right? After the Clorox Girls finished up it was off to the festival to pick up the photo pass and start the day.
The Damnit Jims started everything off as people started filing in, first band on the first day got it going the right way..loud fast and fun. Melted were next up and I loved this band and the surf/punk sound they were blasting before giving way to the one and only JFA. Skate Punk legends, Arizona roots and an all time favorite..what else can I say but awesome!
Noise took the stage next and as my first time seeing them I was loving their sound and am hoping to be able to catch them again, really digging this band. The one and only Youth Brigade kept things going as the next to hit the stage and were great as always. They finished up by letting people get on stage to do Sink with California, very cool. L,A,s The Bronx took over next and anytime your lead singer jumps over security to get to the crowd you know you are giving people a great show.
A band I never get tired of seeing and are never disappointed by came on next and the Subhumans showed why they have maintained a level of longevity many other bands can only hope to have, brilliant as always. The Exploited were next and I have not seen them play live since maybe 1984 so getting this chance again after all these years was indeed a treat. Sex and Violence.
Ending day one of the festival with FLAG was incredible! Black Flag songs the way I want to hear them with Chuck, Bill, Dez and Stephen playing while Keith shows he is still the best front man in punk. Definitely my zen moment of the day is hearing nervous breakdown played with the power and energy these guys put in to it. Special props to Dez for bouncing back from medical issues and putting his all in to the show.
Check out some pics from day one and be on the lookin’ out for day two and three coming soon.
