Fall is the season for many things — back to school, that holiday you all seem to be big fans of, getting back to work, season changes (in places outside of the Southwest), and of course, new albums from old and new bands alike. Obviously, this is by no means a comprehensive list, but here are some new releases coming soon that we’ve had our eye on.
By now, I’m sure everyone here is quite familiar with Fat Wreck Chords and the ever-so-colorful Fat Mike. Some of us may even be familiar with how it began and the hundred plus bands that have touted the Fat Wreck seal of approval on one or all of their releases. The alumni list is pretty hefty, particularly if you include subsidiary labels Honest Don’s and Pink & Black, which unfortunately, were barely mentioned in this documentary. I have more complaints being a terminal curmudgeon, but we’ll get to those later.
Fat Wreck Chords (2016)
Officially released by Fat Wreck Chords on April 1st this 16 track piece of awesomeness is already a favorite of many people I know including myself so this is less of a review and more of a “go buy this now!” kind of deal.
Pears have followed up their 2014 debut LP “Go to Prison” with something that proves the hype and talk around the band the past 2 years was well warranted. Almost every music site I frequent has been giving rave reviews and kudos to this new release and everyone I know that has bought it absolutely loves it. Although it is early in the year this will easily go down as one of the best albums of the year…I believe it is that damn good. Check out The Flu, Cumshots and Partridge which are three of my favorite songs. Give it a listen and see for yourself.
An amazing band, especially live, have released an amazing album and I encourage you to pick it up or at least check it out.
Division of Spoils
Fat Wreck Chords (2015)
The Flatliners have been quite the prolific band in their 10 years together. Four full length albums and a mass of 7”s, many of which Fat has had the privilege of releasing. Now it turns out that all those non-album songs, when compiled, create a strikingly great double album: Division of Spoils, out August 7th on CD & Digital, with the double vinyl edition coming a month later. Quality songs from start to finish, you get three sides (16 songs) of killer Flats originals, one side (5 songs) of eclectic covers, and 2 super rare bonus oldies just for you super fans. But let’s give singer Chris Cresswell the chance to tell you what went into this collection
